On Tuesday morning, the New York Rangers signed right-shot defenceman Victor Mancini, 21, to a two-year, entry-level contract.
The Rangers selected Mancini, a Michigan native, in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Mancini played three years in the NCAA at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, finishing his junior season with 10 points (four goals and six assists) in 40 games.
During his three seasons at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, he had 23 points, including four goals and 19 assists.
Mancini was honored NCHC Academic All-Conference and Distinguished Scholar as a sophomore during the 2022-2023 NCAA season.
Mancini originally enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Omaha as a 19-year-old freshman in 2021-22.
Before that, he spent two years in Sweden and one season with the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League.
Chytil out for Game 4 of the Rangers’ second-round series against the Hurricanes.
Raleigh, North Carolina (AP) Filip Chytil, a forward with the New York Rangers, was ruled out of Saturday’s playoff game against the Carolina Hurricanes, only one game after making his first appearance since November due to a brain injury that left him sidelined for the season.
Chytil did not participate in the morning skate owing to what coach Peter Laviolette described as an illness. He did not explain the nature of the sickness. Laviolette stated that Chytil was a game-time decision.
However, Chytil did not play and was scratched in Game 4 as the Rangers sought a second-round sweep of the Hurricanes.
The 24-year-old Chytil played only 10 regular-season games before suffering suspected concussion symptoms, prompting him to travel to his native Czechia to skate with Jaromir Jagr, among others, in a bid to recover. He returned to play 12:02 of ice time and 17 shifts in Thursday’s overtime victory in Game 3.
Laviolette told reporters on Saturday that Chytil felt well on Friday but didn’t feel well when he woke on Saturday.
Jonny Brodzinski returned to the lineup, while Matt Rempe was a healthy scratch for New York.
