JUST IN: Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving couldn’t stay silent after Cooper Flagg’s Summer League debut.

Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 87-85 on Thursday night, and Kyrie Irving had nothing but good things to say about it.

Flagg made his Summer League debut in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was selected first overall by the Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft because they thought he was a fantastic player who might eventually lead the team.

Flagg ended with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and a block in his 32 minutes of play. He made 5 out of 21 field goals, including 0 out of 5 from beyond the arc.

After the game, Irving thought back on the team’s victory. He recognized that it was the team’s first game and is eager to see how they perform in the upcoming encounter.

It was amazing. Fantastic team victory. Can I say anything else? Present yourself in the best possible light. Coop finished his very first game. Many men experienced nervousness. “I’m excited for Game 2 to start soon,” Irving remarked.

Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks fought to defeat the Lakers in the last seconds of the game.

At the half, Los Angeles led 47–43. Dallas took control of the game in spite of this, responding with a 25–15 showing in the third quarter. The Mavericks made enough plays in the closing minutes to repel their opponents’ attacks, despite their opponents’ retaliation in the final period.

Flagg was one of three Dallas players to score in double figures. Leading the way with 21 points, five assists, two rebounds, and a steal was Ryan Nembhard. He made 8 of 14 shots total, including 1 of 2 from beyond the arc. Jordan Hall and Gabe McGlothan each scored nine points, and Miles Kelly followed with 17 points and four rebounds.

The Mavericks will prepare for their next matchup in Las Vegas. They face the San Antonio Spurs on July 12 at 4 p.m. ET
