Dodgers linked to veteran outfielder as a potential trade deadline addition.
As the season progresses, the Los Angeles Dodgers have recognized the need for additional outfield depth. Los Angeles has already demoted James Outman to the minor levels, while Chris Taylor has been in a major slump all season.
With the July 30 trade deadline still two months away, the Dodgers are doing everything they can to stay above water in the position. But that doesn’t mean Andrew Friedman, president of baseball operations, isn’t scouting players from all over the league.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers may consider signing an outfielder at the deadline. Tommy Pham, a seasoned right-hander who presently plays for the Chicago White Sox, has been mentioned.
Pham was connected to Los Angeles during the offseason, but he ultimately signed with Chicago. The White Sox undoubtedly knew that if he played well in the early half of the season, they could trade him around the deadline for some assets.
Pham has hit.294 this season, with three home runs and 12 RBIs. Despite the White Sox’s troubles this season, he has been a consistent presence on the squad.
Pham played an important role in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ World Series victory last year. In the postseason for Arizona, he hit.279 with three home runs and four RBI.
Adding another right-handed bat would also be beneficial, providing L.A. more versatility in the future. The Dodgers are sure to make some deals at the deadline, and acquiring Pham might help strengthen the squad for the season’s stretch run.
