Excl: Dundee United star’s career looks OVER as he turned down new contract
The Ghanaian remained on holiday as the Tangerines reported for pre-season training on Monday.
Mathew Cudjoe’s Dundee United career appears to be ended after the Ghanaian forward declined a new deal.
According to Courier Sport, Cudjoe, 20, was offered a one-year contract extension after a promising 2023/24 season.
The precocious teenager produced three goals and two assists in his first five league games last season, but lost his place in the side following a red card against Morton in September.
He remained a bit-part player for the rest of United’s promotion campaign.
Cudjoe’s lack of action disappointed him, but he remained highly respected at United. Plans were made for him to move out on loan and continue his career at Tannadice.
However, talks have gone down, and when Jim Goodwin’s team returned for training on Monday morning, Cudjoe was still on vacation. He will not play for the club again unless things change dramatically.
The Terrors have safeguarded their right to a hefty development fee for Cudjoe by submitting a new contract, but with an impasse that is not in the best interests of either party, they are likely to be open to negotiations.
Cudjoe is liked by St Johnstone manager Craig Levein and Hamilton manager John Rankin, although he prefers to pursue opportunities in Europe.
