OG Anunoby Predicted to Break Bank with the New York Knicks
The most current New York Knicks news is free agency forward OG Anunoby. He is one of several free agents with whom the organization must deal this offseason if they wish to reunite the band for another run.
After being acquired from the Toronto Raptors before the New Year, the Knicks’ productivity surged. They were the best team in the NBA for the short weeks when OG Anunoby was healthy and playing alongside Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.
Things came together as he recognized his attacking position as a complementing component. His corner 3-point shooting created space for Brunson and Randle to operate, and his superb cutting skills resulted in dunks.
On defense, he was everything the New York Knicks hoped for. Tom Thibodeau assigned OG Anunoby to shut down whomever he wanted that night. Guards, forwards, big men—you name it. If they had Anunoby as their major opponent, they were in for a long night.
New York will do everything it can to guarantee that OG Anunoby returns to the squad. However, if a recent forecast is correct, they will have to back up the Brinks truck for him.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report claimed that OG Anunoby will receive a $200 million contract to return to the New York Knicks. Swartz believes there is too much leverage for it to be less expensive.
“Given his impact on winning (20-3 record with the Knicks), the leverage he can get from other teams with max cap space (hello, Philadelphia 76ers), and the fact that his agent, Sam Rose, also represents Brunson and is the son of Knicks president Leon Rose, it’s safe to say Anunoby will be compensated.”
While signing Anunoby for $30 million per season would have been ideal for New York, Swartz predicts the 26-year-old would accept a five-year, $200 million contract instead.
Given the close connections between the New York Knicks franchise and CAA, one would assume the opposite. Holding out for as much money as possible would put New York in a difficult position, but OG Anunoby is a guy they must retain this offseason.
You don’t give up key pieces like Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett for a temporary player. The amount OG Anunoby signs for will have a significant impact on the remainder of the New York Knicks’ offseason.
