Quarterback Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles helped guide his team to an NFL championship in 2025 and two Super Bowl appearances in the previous three seasons. However, that hasn’t made many of his skeptics go away.
Hurts’ opponents continue to think that he is just a product of the team that surrounds him, which features the league’s top offensive line and multiple superstars at skill positions. But without Hurts pulling the strings, none of it would work, according to Hurts apologists and Eagles supporters in particular.
Now, after weeks of debate, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni has decided to weigh in. And he’s not a fan of the narrative that Hurts was carried by his teammates.
“That’s bulls—,” Sirianni remarked. He holds the most significant role in all of athletics, after all. It’s also the best team game available. And his selflessness in going above and above to win is what I find admirable in him.”
Sirianni did admit that the Eagles have one of the league’s best rosters. However, he added that those parts only function if Hurts and everyone else are performing their duties individually.
“The fact that it takes everyone to achieve your goals is one of the reasons I love football so much,” he remarked. “You can start listing outstanding quarterbacks now; I’ll tell you about their outstanding defenses and receivers.
“The list goes on and on, whether it’s Mahomes with Kelce, Steve Young with Jerry Rice, Brady with Gronkowski, or Brady’s early defenses. Sometimes, I suppose, that makes for a good debate. It’s not even a good discussion, in my opinion. However, people are able to argue it. However, I suppose my first thought was that it was bullshit.
NFL executives recently named Hurts as the ninth-best quarterback in the NFL. He was unranked on the same list a year ago, but came in sixth on the list in 2023 following the Eagles’ first Super Bowl appearance with him under center.
