Mets recall Tyler Jay and Matt Festa from Triple-A Syracuse.
Following last night’s game, the Mets optioned Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse and sent down left-handed reliever Danny Young. Relievers Tyler Jay and Matt Festa were summoned to assist give the bullpen some fresh arms in their current 17-game streak without an off-day.
Young has had three stints with the major league team this season, and for his first ten outings, he looked like a legitimate second lefty out of the bullpen, posting a 0.87 ERA in nine and a third innings. Young, on the other hand, only lasted a third of an inning in two games this weekend, allowing two earned runs in each.
Jay, a left-handed reliever who appeared in two Mets games in mid-April, will take over for Young. In 36 innings with Syracuse, Jay has a 2.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and four walks.
Festa spent portions of four seasons in the majors with the Mariners, the majority of which came in 2022, when he pitched 54 innings with a 4.17 ERA. Festa joined with the Mets on May 19th and has participated in 11 games for Syracuse, pitching well with a sub-one WHIP and a 6.33 K/BB ratio.
To make the roster movements work, Brooks Raley was placed on the 60-Day Injured List, and outfielder Duke Ellis was designated for assignment.
The Mets are expected to recall either Christian Scott or José Buttó to take Megill’s place in the rotation Thursday against the Nationals.
