“No doubt”: Jeremy Swayman finds new tradition with backup not long after Linus Ullmark got traded

The goalkeeper embrace between Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman will end after the former was moved to the Ottawa Senators last month. Despite this, the current Bruins goalie may establish a new tradition with his backup.

“I know we don’t have the hug anymore but there’s still going to be something going on after Bruins games, I can only imagine,” Swayman was filmed saying. “Hopefully, (Joonas Korpisalo) and I will find something cool and continue that tradition. “No doubt.”

After each victory, Swayman and Ullmark hugged in happiness. It elicited loud cheers from the audience and became a custom that many fans grew to enjoy. However, following the Ullmark deal that brought Korpisalo to Boston, both Ullmark and Swayman stated that they will no longer hug.

Swayman’s words on establishing a new tradition suggest he will sign a long-term contract with the Bruins. After settling in arbitration last year, something Swayman was adamant about not doing again, the 25-year-old emerged as the team’s No. 1 goalkeeper and played the most of Boston’s postseason run.

Neither the Bruins nor Swayman chose to go to arbitration this summer. And, while any other team can offer Swayman a deal, the Bruins are well-positioned to match any offer he receives. However, general manager Don Sweeney has stated that signing a long-term contract for the goalie is a top priority. This time, the two sides will work toward a solution without the involvement of a third party.

Ullmark plans to establish a new tradition with Anton Forsberg, but emphasizes the importance of organic development.

The Bruins will look a little different during the 2024-25 NHL season after they traded Ullmark and signed Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov. Jake DeBrusk and Matt Grzelcyk also found new homes with the Vancouver Canucks and the Pittsburgh Penguins, respectively, and there will be a new goalie tandem with a new tradition after wins.
