Report: Five Kansas City Chiefs Players Injured Before Training Camp Begins
Before training camp, the Kansas City Chiefs have several players out due to injuries. Rookies reported to training camp on Tuesday. Veterans will return to training camp on Saturday.
During OTAs this spring, the Chiefs had one major injury to worry about: Joe Thuney. Thuney had a pectoral injury during the playoffs last season, missing the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

According to Sports Illustrated’s transcription of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s comments in June about Thuney’s injury improvement, the three-time All-Pro guard was making “good progress” in his rehabilitation this offseason:
“Joe’s working his tail off and getting better,” Reid told me. “We have to see how that stuff works – we have to acquire doctor’s clearance and go through the entire process. But he is making good progress. He’ll be one of those individuals who is on the fence about whether or not he can go from the healing side of things.”
Thuney will begin training camp on the PUP list.
The Chiefs feel Thuney will be ready to start in Week 1 unless he has a setback this summer. Thuney’s presence on the offensive line is crucial, and he is undoubtedly one of the league’s greatest guards. According to Matt Derrick at Chiefs Digest, Thuney will

Defensive end Charles Omenihu, who suffered an ACL injury in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, will begin training camp on the PUP list. Derrick Nnadi, a defensive tackle, had a triceps injury during the playoffs and is on the PUP list. Cornerback Jaylen Watson is on the PUP list after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured labrum he sustained last season.
Defensive end BJ Thompson had a heart episode during OTAs this spring. He’ll begin training camp on the non-football injury list.
Andy Reid says: DE BJ Thompson will start camp on the non-football injury list. LG Joe Thuney, Delaware Charles Omenihu, DT Derrick Nnadi, and CB Jaylen Watson will likely start.
