Sad News: Dirt Late Model racer has died after a multi-car crash at Eldora Speedway

Shane Unger, a Dirt Late Model racer, killed in a crash at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway after a late restart in the World 100, as reported on the track’s website.

Unger was 35 years old.

Tony Stewart Racing, which owns Eldora Speedway, has offered sympathies. Drivers in the last race of the evening lined up four-wide as a tribute.

Unger was participating in the second heat of the World 100. During the restart, he became engaged in a multicar accident in Turn 3. He died at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio, after being carried there by ambulance.

In its press release, the track stated: “The Unger family has conveyed their appreciation of the prayers and support expressed by the racing community and requests their privacy be respected at this time.”
