Former Angels reliever announces retirement from the MLB.

Joe Smith, a veteran reliever, announced his retirement from baseball after 15 seasons in Major League Baseball.


Smith played 866 games for the New York Mets, Cleveland Guardians, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and Minnesota Twins.
Smith pitched for the Angels from 2014 to 2016, recording a 2.89 ERA in 177.2 innings. The Chicago Cubs acquired him at the 2016 trade deadline in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo.


Smith did not pitch in 2023 and concluded his career with a 55-34 record and a 3.14 ERA over 760 innings pitched.
