Bleacher news: Star QB reject saints mega contract to play for Rams

Rams, quarterback Matthew Stafford agrees to terms on the adjusted deal.
The amended deal for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been finalized.

Stafford’s amended contract will pay him more this season and enhance his roster bonus next offseason, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Stafford will make $5 million more upfront in 2024, which was bumped up from a later contract year, and his 2025 roster bonus will increase from $5 million to $9 million, according to Rapoport.

Stafford’s four-year, $160 million contract, signed in 2022, was not extended by the Rams; it remains in effect until the 2026 season.

Stafford, 36, had expressed to the Rams his desire to add more guaranteed money to the contract he signed months after leading the Rams to a Super Bowl title, and appeared poised to hold out — or only participate in individual drills — until the contract was reworked on the morning Rams camp opened last Tuesday.

Stafford ended strong last season despite struggling early on and missing one start due to a thumb injury. He threw 16 touchdowns and four interceptions in his final seven regular-season starts, helping the Rams reach the playoffs and nearly leading a playoff upset over his former Lions squad in Detroit.
