The Kansas City Chiefs missed out on a five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver in free agency.
The Kansas City Chiefs hope to make history in the 2024 NFL season. If they win the Super Bowl again, they will be the first team to win it three years in a row. The Green Bay Packers have won three consecutive NFL Championships on two separate occasions, but no club has won three consecutive Super Bowls.

Of course, the Chiefs are led by Patrick Mahomes, the two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP. Their attack also has Travis Kelce, a consistent Pro Bowl tight end and probably the best player at his position in this generation.

Wide receiver is an area where Kansas City has struggled to add notable players in recent seasons. Since Tyreek Hill was dealt to the Miami Dolphins, they have lacked a true number one wide receiver. Kelce was the team’s leading pass catcher even with Hill on the roster, but the wide receiver room has changed significantly since his departure.

The Kansas City Chiefs achieved Super Bowl success without star wide receivers.
Of again, the Chiefs haven’t exactly been floundering without a top-tier wide receiver. After all, they did win the Super Bowl twice without him.

Following Hill’s trade, Kansas City signed former Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. While MVS did not have the same numbers as Hill, he did contribute significantly to the team during the two postseasons in which he played. Of course, he was released after the season and then signed with the Buffalo Bills.

The Chiefs have also made use of Mecole Hardman, who caught the game-winning touchdown in Kansas City’s previous Super Bowl victory. Although MVS was not retained by the Chiefs, Hardman has been re-signed for the 2024 NFL season.

Last season, the Chiefs began the process of rebuilding their wide receiver corps via the NFL Draft. Rashee Rice had a solid rookie season last year, but he was involved in some regrettable and dangerous events during the offseason. Kansas City also used their first-round pick this year to select wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Recently, a five-time Pro Bowl pass catcher stated that he, too, considered joining the Chiefs in free agency.
Mike Evans, a five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, considered signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
In a recent interview, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver and former Super Bowl Champion Mike Evans disclosed that he pondered signing with the Chiefs in free agency:

“I mean, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking Houston and Kansas City. I enjoy Pat Mahomes’ game. I’m thinking about the two teams. And I’m obviously thinking about the Buccaneers.”

Ultimately, the five-time Pro Bowler chose to re-sign with the only team he has ever played for, partly because his wife preferred to stay where they were.

Evans, a 10-year NFL veteran, has averaged more than 1,000 receiving yards per season. He owns the NFL record for the most consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards or more to begin a career.

Last season, he was voted Second Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl after catching 79 passes for 1,255 yards and an NFL-high 13 touchdowns.
