Flexible midfield player “expected to depart” if Birmingham City expresses “interest” and West Brom makes an offer.
Callum Styles, a midfield player for Barnsley, is anticipated to depart this summer after receiving attention from Birmingham City and an offer from West Brom.
According to reports, the Hungary international will leave Oakwell Stadium, ending his eight-year tenure in South Yorkshire.
Styles has represented Hungary in senior competition 23 times. According to Sky Sports, two weeks ago, West Bromwich Albion made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Styles. In July, writer Alan Nixon revealed that Birmingham City, a team in the West Midlands, had a similar interest.
Styles is “very likely to leave the club,” according to a more recent update from Barnsley Chronicle, and he may be returning to the English second division. It is said that “negotiations have reached an advanced stage” with a Championship team, perhaps ending Birmingham’s shaky relationship for good.
Nothing specific indicates that West Brom is the team being discussed. It’s a tricky scenario since Styles, who is said to have a £2 million release clause, is wanted by Barnsley in exchange for a striker and cash. That would be a hefty cost considering he has less than a year left on his deal.
Styles, who joined Barnsley from Bury in 2018, has made 151 appearances for the club. However, the transfer window may not finish soon. “It’s close one minute, it’s not the next,” Barnsley Chronicle manager Darrell Clarke said.
It’s not improving the boy’s mental health. You have to adjust; it’s just part of managing a football team, in my opinion. Something will maneuver if it does. We both know where you’re coming from. “I refuse to give him the cold shoulder,” Clarke said.
With the ability to play in midfield almost anywhere and even as a wing-back, Styles will be a flexible choice for any prospective employer. The 24-year-old, who played just 808 minutes during a disastrous loan at Sunderland, will be eager to go back to his previous level wherever he goes.
