Announcement: 5-star player commit to Alabama again

Former 5-star is poised to be unleashed for Alabama’s defense
He has several packages set for Alabama’s defense this season, but how many will Kane Wommack use this former five-star prospect in?

Residents of Montgomery (Ala.) and Crimson Tide are delighted to watch Qua Russaw.

The game-changing linebacker was one half of Carver High School’s formidable defensive combo. Russaw and James Smith (defensive lineman) were both five-star recruits for Alabama’s 2023 signing class. Russaw was one of the best outside linebackers in the country and posed a challenge in fall camp, particularly with his ability off the edge in two scrimmages. The 6-foot-2, 251-pounder has an explosiveness that Tide fans like seeing.

After redshirting his rookie year, Wommack has been quite impressed with the second-year player in the “Wolf” position.

Russaw should get plenty of snaps against Western Kentucky on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Tyler Booker, a junior offensive guard, recognizes that Russaw is ready to be released.

“Qua has a really good explosion,” Booker said Tuesday.

“He is really swift and powerful. Since arriving, he has become a student of the game. He is constantly asking questions about how he might improve. I’m quite interested to watch how he does this year.”

According to Christian Robinson, Alabama’s outside linebackers coach, Russaw is one of three guys at “Wolf” that are ready to play defense in games right now. He joins Que Robinson and Keanu Koht in admiring Robinson.

It was undoubtedly hard for him to wait until 2023, but Russaw is ready to depart now.
