Clyde Edwards-Helaire of the Chiefs will miss at least four games due to PTSD, according to a report.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, a previous first-round pick, has been placed on the NFI list. He is not the only famous player absent from the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster for the 2024 NFL season, which begins on Thursday. Days before their first game, the Chiefs placed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football illness (NFI) list, according to ESPN, ensuring at least a four-game absence due to an alleged mental health issue.
Edwards-Helaire, 25, had been occasionally missing from the Chiefs’ summer program.
Including training camp and preseason games, due to what the team officially defined as an illness. The former first-round draft selection subsequently stated that the ailment was a kind of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by his time at LSU, when he was one of two athletes involved in a deadly self-defense shooting.
“My first couple of years, you just try to block everything out and it’s like, ‘Oh, at some point I’m going to get over it,'” Edwards-Helaire spoke about his illness earlier this summer.
“And you know that this just doesn’t happen. As you become older, you realize that everyone, regardless of age, gender, or circumstance, requires assistance at some point.
By being placed on the NFI list, the running back will not be able to play for the Chiefs until October 7, when they meet the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. Meanwhile, experienced reserve Samaje Perine, who just joined the team following spells as a No. 2 back with the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos, is expected to act as the club’s primary backup to starter ball carrier Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs also have undrafted rookie Carson Steele, who played fullback in the preseason, on their active roster.
