Announcement: Cardinals $7.5 Million Vet Set To Leave St. Louis After Career-Year

The St. Louis Cardinals appear to be open for business.

Who will be with the Cardinals for the 2025 MLB season? The most likely answer is any young talent with a great potential. The Cardinals have stated that they plan to “reset” the organization by 2025.

This means that they will most likely give some young players prolonged looks to see whether they can stay with the team for the long term. In the interim, any veteran could be traded.

According to FanSided’s Josh Jacobs, Erick Fedde has the fourth-highest trade value among St. Louis players.

“The Cardinals’ big trade deadline acquisition this year, Erick Fedde was supposed to be as much about the 2025 club as he was an upgrade for their 2024 rotation,” Jacobs pointed out. “Now he could be one of their best assets in restocking their farm system this offseason.” Fedde wasn’t as sharp with the Cardinals, but he finished the season with a 3.30 ERA and 3.86 FIP in 177.1 innings…

“Fedde is projected to make only $7.5 million in 2025, a fantastic deal for someone who just threw like a number three starter this season…Fedde would obviously not receive that much in free agency for a single year, but he would certainly receive far more than $7.5 million if he were a free agent this offseason. Fedde changed himself throughout his time in the KBO and is now someone that competing rotations would want to have on their roster.”

Fedde was a wonderful trade deadline addition for the Cardinals because he is only slated to earn $7.5 million in 2025. However, his 3.30 ERA in 31 games is more than enough to justify his performance. Despite this, his days with the Cardinals may be numbered as they seek to make changes.
