The light display popped up in the skies throughout the country, and were a sight to be seen.

The skies put on a show for people across the United States this week as the northern lights came out for a dazzling display of color.

From up north in Maine to down south in Texas, and countless spots in between, the stunning lights were visible in the U.S. on the night of Oct. 10 and prompted onlookers to stop for a moment and delight in their magnificence.

No two light displays were the same, as they all featured a variety of colors, including purples, pinks, greens and reds.

In Wisconsin, residents were treated to a ravishing mix of red and green lights.

Virginians were treated to a gorgeous green sky, as some came out to capture the moment up above.

You might think New Yorkers wouldn’t be able to see the lights due to the amount of buildings packed together, but the mix of pink, purple and blue was visible — and absolutely stunning.

Floridians were treated to a magnificent mix of purples and pinks on the night of Oct. 10.

On Oct. 11, TODAY’s Al Roker described the phenomenon that happened overnight across the country.

“Normally we see a lot of green cuz thats mostly oxygen interacting with the radioactive particles of the sun. But you get the pinks when there’s a little more nitrogen in the air,” he said.

Disappointed that she missed the lights, Savannah Guthrie asked, “Wow, why didn’t you tell us?”

“We did during the show but thanks for watching,” Al joked.
