Breaking: Raiders Are Closing In On Deal To Sign $47.1 Million QB
With the offseason almost fully underway, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields—who has been the target of numerous trade rumors for more than a year—seems certain to be traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.
There was a lot of talk after the season that Fields was traded to make room for either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young to be selected first overall by Chicago in the 2023 draft.
Rather than dealing Fields, Chicago made one of the most lopsided transactions in recent memory, sending DJ Moore, their 2024 first-round pick, and a ton of additional assets to the Carolina Panthers in return for the first overall pick.
After a catastrophic 2023 season, Carolina suddenly holds the first overall pick, which Chicago now owns because of the earlier trade.
But with this quarterback class being so excellent and Fields only displaying marginal improvement, Chicago seems to have changed their mind. Instead of trading for the first overall pick once more, they’re going to move Fields, most likely selecting Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
These trade rumors are vague, and it’s unclear exactly what Fields is being traded for, but three factors make this appear improbable: Vegas first signed Gardner Minshew II, a former quarterback for Indianapolis. Secondly, they have a pick in the top-15 of the draft, which they will probably use to choose a quarterback. Finally, Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator of the Bears, has joined the Raiders, though there have been mixed reviews between the two.
That being said, if Vegas decides against taking a quarterback early, Fields might make sense.
