Breaking: Cardinals Are Making Move To Land Ex-Dodgers $21 Million All-Star To Boost Much-Needed Depth
To offer more depth, St. Louis might use one more seasoned starter.
Opening Day is drawing near with increasing speed.
Although there is still opportunity for improvement, it appears like the St. Louis Cardinals are in a stronger position currently than they were at the end of the 2023 campaign.
Early free agency acquisitions of Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson have greatly strengthened St. Louis’ starting lineup. But Gray has an injury, and it’s not certain how much time he will miss because of it.
Many have hypothesized that the Cardinals might add even more depth by making another pickup. One former All-Star, Noah Syndergaard, is still available and may be a great fit for St. Louis.
He is searching for a big league deal, but he has thrown for organizations and has received at least one minor league contract offer.
Despite his struggles with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians in the previous season, Syndergaard, who is only thirty-one years old, has a career 3.71 ERA in eight big league seasons.
The fireballer might be a cheap insurance policy to give the Cardinals’ rotation additional depth. St. Louis has the financial means to acquire Syndergaard if it decides to take another action.
With the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, Syndergaard was far more effective. In 134 2/3 innings pitched, he had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 95 to 31 and a 3.94 ERA in 25 total appearances.
The seasoned right-hander is undoubtedly a contender for a comeback and might be a good fit for St. Louis. Although many believe the Cardinals to be the best club in the National League Central, everything might change if any members of the starting rotation are injured. How about a little extra depth?
