BREAKING NEWS: Former Boston Bruins fan Favorite & radio Personality Lyndon Byers passes away

It was simple to understand why Lyndon Byers was a Boston Bruins fan favorite during his playing days. “LB” was a player who always tried to fuck it up and never shied away from a hit; Black and Gold supporters adored his style. According to a Facebook post made public by his wife Annie on Saturday, he died on Friday at the age of 61.

Following a playing career that included nine years in Boston and his final season with the San Jose Sharks in Northern California, he spent twenty-five years as a radio host on the Boston radio station WAAF. In addition, he starred in the television series “Rescue Me” and the films “Shallow Hal” and “Stuck On You.”

Lyndon Byers Career with the Boston Bruins

During his nine seasons with the Black and Gold, Byers scored 24 goals and provided 42 assists in 261 regular season games. He also accrued 959 penalty minutes, ranking 11th on the team’s all-time penalty box time list. In 1992–93, he participated in just 18 games during his final season with San Jose, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist. In those 18 games with the Sharks, he accrued 122 penalty minutes, staying true to his form.

He had a significant role in the 1988 and 1990 Stanley Cup Finals, which the Boston Bruins made when he was a member of the team. In 1987–88, he recorded his best season with 10 goals and 14 assists.

Byers, who was selected 39th overall by the Bruins in the second round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, brought his sense of humor to the microphone on WAAF after his playing days. It was a must-listen for everyone who had the opportunity. But his muscular style on the ice, which was thrilling to see, will live on in the memories of Bruins fans forever.
