The deal with the Boston Celtics to acquire Kristaps Porzingis was one of the Atlanta Hawks’ most significant offseason transactions to date. Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard were two more significant free agency additions for the Hawks. According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.com, the Hawks made their most recent roster move on Thursday when they re-signed Jacob Toppin in free agency.

The Hawks have signed Jacob Toppin to a two-way free agency deal. Toppin was a restricted free agent after the Hawks made him a qualifying offer. It seems sense that he accepted his qualifying offer even though the specifics of the contract were not immediately accessible.
One of the Hawks’ three two-way contract spots will go to Toppin. Eli Ndiaye from Real Madrid was signed by the squad to a two-way contract earlier in the offseason. Unless the Hawks decide to convert his contract to a regular one, he will only be able to play in 50 NBA games and will not be able to participate in the playoffs.
Toppin, who was released by the New York Knicks in March of last season, will be in his second season with the Hawks. Last season, Toppin made just one appearance with the Hawks in the regular season.
He did play a significant amount of time in the G League with the College Park Skyhawks and the Westchester Knicks as part of his two-way deal. At little over 36 minutes per game, he made 23 appearances in the G League. He shot 50.4 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from the three-point line, and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line, averaging 22.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.
After having his Exhibit 10 contract changed to a two-way contract, Toppin started his NBA career with the Knicks in the 2023–24 campaign. He joined with the Knicks just before the Indiana Pacers traded their younger brother, forward Obi Toppin, to the Pacers.
Toppin participated in the NBA’s Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in 2024.
