Later this month, James Hagens and Anton Frondell, both selected in the top 10 of the 2025 NHL Draft, will compete in the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase.

The camp will take place at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis from July 25 to August 2 and will include training and matches between players from the US, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. It is the initial assessment phase for the World Juniors in 2026.
Along with forward Victor Eklund, who was chosen by the Islanders with the No. 16 choice of the 2025 draft, Frondell, who was taken No. 3 by the Chicago Blackhawks last month, will be a member of Sweden’s 25-man roster. Sweden’s top forward prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft, Viggo Bjorck and Ivar Stenberg, will also be at the camp.
Among the nine players participating in the camp that helped the United States win gold at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship is Hagens, who was chosen seventh overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2025 draft.
At the 2025 WJC, Hagens finished third with nine points and matched for the U.S. lead with five goals in seven games.
Cole Hutson, a defenseman for the Washington Capitals, and Teddy Stiga, a forward for the Nashville Predators, are also returning.
With 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in seven games, Hutson led the U.S. and all defenseman in the tournament. In the gold-medal match versus Finland, Stiga scored the goal in overtime.
This year’s camp will also feature forwards Trevor Connelly (Vegas Golden Knights), Cole Eiserman (New York Islanders), Max Plante (Detroit Red Wings), and Brodie Ziemer (Buffalo Sabres), as well as defensemen Logan Hensler (Ottawa Senators) and Adam Kleber (Buffalo Sabres).
For the first time, the United States aims to capture a third consecutive gold medal in the WJC. Canada, who won five consecutive tournaments from 2005 to 2009, was the last team to win three in a row.
After David Carle of the University of Denver led the U.S. team for the previous two years, Bob Motzko of the University of Minnesota will take over as coach. The United States won the gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championship and the bronze medal at the 2018 WJC under Motzko’s coaching.
Minnesota will host the 2026 WJC from December 26 to January 5, 2026. Sweden, Slovakia, Germany, and the United States will all be in Group A. Finland, Czechia, Canada, Latvia, and Denmark make up Group B.
In addition to Hagens and Hensler (No. 25), the U.S. roster features four other players selected in the first round of the 2025 draft: defenseman Henry Brzustewicz (No. 31, Los Angeles Kings), forwards William Horcoff (No. 24, Pittsburgh Penguins), Ryker Lee (No. 26, Nashville Predators), and Cullen Potter (No. 32, Calgary Flames).
The rosters for Finland and Canada will be revealed later.
