On Sunday morning, news broke that KaVontae Turpin, a wide receiver with the Dallas Cowboys, had been detained. Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News confirmed that this was indeed the situation.
According to reports, Turpin was charged with two misdemeanors: unauthorized carrying of a handgun and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).Needless to say, none of the Cowboys’ players would like this. It should be mentioned that Turpin has already experienced problems off the pitch. He was arrested on assault charges while playing at TCU. He was fired from the team as a result of this.
As you may remember, we praised the Cowboys for avoiding any restricted free agent drama by signing Turpin to a three-year agreement this offseason. Although he is a valuable member of the squad and among the NFL’s top return men overall, the coaching staff and front office do not value his behavior.
The matter will probably be addressed when the Cowboys report to Oxnard for training camp in a few weeks.

Following the All-Pro returner’s unexpected arrest over the holiday weekend, the Dallas Cowboys’ $18 million wager on KaVontae Turpin is facing criticism and skepticism.
During the extended holiday weekend, when NFL coaches infamously prepare for late-night calls, KaVontae Turpin was arrested. What fans were afraid of was confirmed by Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer on Monday morning: “NFL coaches dread that phone call during the slow time.” “And I have precisely that now.”
Turpin was arrested and released on separate bonds of $1,000 for unlawfully carrying a handgun and $500 for marijuana, according to court documents. Under NFL regulations, marijuana infractions usually result in increased testing and fines, but they no longer guarantee suspensions. The Cowboys’ offseason plans may become even more murky as a result of the weapons accusation, which may call for additional sanctions.
The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive plans and special teams tactics are called into question by KaVontae Turpin’s arrest.
It couldn’t be worse timed. Dallas gave Turpin a three-year contract costing $6 million a season, an unprecedented amount for a returner, after clearing more than $50 million in cap space before free agency. Turpin, who erupted last season with 904 kick return yards, 420 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns, was given a deal that the front staff anticipated would finally allow him to play a larger offensive role.
According to several sources at the time of the deal’s announcement, KaVontae Turpin’s contract virtually guarantees the Cowboys would employ him more offensively. After Jalen Tolbert struggled with consistency and Brandin Cooks missed seven games, the intention was to start him alongside CeeDee Lamb.
